ABIAH
ABIAH's new album reflects years steeped in a love and admiration of Nina Simone. Each song, an homage to a legacy that birthed torch songs and introduced us to an awareness at our core. As the fourth full-length from the Ghanaian-American singer/songwriter, ABIAH sings NINA, builds off the captivating unapologetic cool of his Billboard Top 100 Album BOTTLES and emerges as ABIAH's most defining and expansive work so far. There has never been a Nina Simone Tribute album of this magnitude and honor. And while each album marks a departure from the next, ABIAH sings NINA finds the inimitable singer again showing the extraordinary depth of his artistry.
Recorded at Brooklyn's Atomic Sound Studios, the 9 track album includes some of his favorite Nina Simone songs including Don't Smoke in Bed, See-line Woman and Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair. There is also a Nina-inspired original song, I'm Just Like You, written after the death of Trayvon Martin.
ABIAH recently recorded with Grammy & Oscar Award winning artists Common and Robert Glasper on their new collaborative album August Greene as well as recorded and vocal produced projects for Netflix...Baz Luhrmann's The Get Up and What Happened Miss Simone. Festival & venue appearances include: Taichung Jazz Festival, St. Anna Arezza Jazz Festival, Suono di Popoli Jazz Festival, D.C. Jazz Festival, Blue Note (New York & Tokyo), Joe's Pub, Carnegie Hall, Symphony Hall, Regatta Bar, Jazz@lincoln Center, Le Poisson Rouge, Banlieuse Blues Festival, Bimhuis, the Apollo Theater, Tampere Jazz Happening, San Sebastien Jazz Festival, Son d'Hiver Jazz Festival and many others.
